The Turlock 12:10 Lions Club is holding a fund-raiser dinner at Minnie's on McHenry Avenue in Modesto.

Though the dinner isn't until Sept. 19, club members said they need to sell tickets -- seating is limited to 100 -- by the end of August to ensure the event takes place.

Club president L]]> A local Lions Club wants to bring a little bit of France to a Modesto restaurant to help some Turlock children.

The Turlock 12:10 Lions Club is holding a fund-raiser dinner at Minnie’s on McHenry Avenue in Modesto.

Though the dinner isn’t until Sept. 19, club members said they need to sell tickets — seating is limited to 100 — by the end of August to ensure the event takes place.

Club president Larry Martin said he got the idea while talking with local chef Annie Henrich. Both are members of the Lions Club and a regional French culture club.

"We figured why not bring them together?" Martin said.

The Lions want to raise money for "Safely Ever After," a program through MedicAlert that provides bracelets or other jewelry with medical information for area schoolchildren. The program has been a success in Canada, where it originated: students ages 4 to 14 get enrolled for free.

"We need $100 per kid," Martin said. MedicAlert contributes the remainder of the $280 enrollment cost.

"Bistro de Paris" will include five authentic French courses.

Henrich,buy tiffany necklaces, who will oversee the cooking,tiffany bracelets on sale, said the budget is pretty much nothing.

"We’re getting everything donated,discount tiffany bangles," she said. That includes the venue, flowers, much of the food and even the prep work — she approached ITT Tech, which is providing 22 students to chop vegetables and get the food ready.

Martin said he’s a little nervous because this is the first time his club has tried a fund-raiser of this kind. But he’s hoping it becomes a regular event:

"If it’s successful,discount tiffany earrings, there’s no reason we couldn’t have two a year," he said.

The Dolphins lost in straight sets to the Warriors last Tuesday,tiffany key rings on sale, but beat Greater Miami and Mater Lakes academies in straight sets Wednesday and Thursday.

"Westminster was a learning situation for us. We knew what the outcome would be so we worked on what we do best. They’re very strong and have kids that can kill. We worked on receiving, digging and blocking. I think they did well," coach Teresa Konrath said.

Marathon beat Greater Miami 25-12, 25-15 and 25-23 for its first victory of the year, then followed it up with a 25-19,tiffany cuff Links sale, 25-15 and 25-15 win over the Bears the next night.

Konrath said she was pleased with the Dolphins’ performance after the straight-set loss to Westminster. "What I’m working on is trying to keep the positive atmosphere on the floor and keep them from putting their heads down," she said.

Seniors Kelley Struyf and Annabelle Walker did just that Thursday when Mater Lakes jumped out in front during the third game.

"We started to get points down and they called the team together at center court. It was amazing to see that leadership,Charm pendant," Konrath said.

Marathon trailed the Bears 11-5 in the third game but rallied on a six-point serving rally by Walker to tie it. The Dolphins took control and easily closed out the match.

Struyf, Walker and Taylor Konrath have been the Dolphins’ main hitters up front. Struyf posted six kills against Mater Lakes Thursday,discount tiffany cuff Links, while Walker had two and Konrath one.

Struyf led the way Wednesday with seven kills and two digs against Greater Miami. Konrath had six kills and Walker three. Walker also blocked four shots.

Seniors Michelle Sardina and Layne Doyle are the team’s top setters. Sardina notched 16 sets against Greater Miami and another 10 against Mater Lakes. Doyle posted 10 and 11 respectively.

The Dolphins are now 2-1 after a busy beginning to the season. The team is scheduled to host Palmer Trinity School Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. The junior varsity match is scheduled for 4 p.m.

When the two were reunited Friday, Causby gave Eubanks a big hug and shook her hand.

Causby said he remembers very little of the motorcycle wreck that left him the hospital for several days or of the woman who helped keep him still until emergency workers arrived. Soon after ambulances got to the scene, she disappeared.

After Causby was released from the hospital, his story was featured in The Star. He hoped the mystery woman would see it and come forward.

Eubanks said she didn’t expect to be recognized for being a Good Samaritan. She was just trying to help.

But when two neighbors saw the story in the paper,Beads necklace, they brought it over to her house to show her.

‘I KNEW IT WAS TOO LATE’

Eubanks remembers the day clearly. She was sitting on her porch enjoying a morning cup of coffee when the screech of tires on hot pavement shattered the silence.

Eubanks, of Peachtree Road, was in a motorcycle wreck several years ago and recognized the sound of brakes "locking down."

"I heard him hit the brakes,money clips, but I knew it was too late for him to make the corner safely," she said.

She said when she saw the man go by her house, she knew he wasn’t going to make the curve just ahead.

Eubanks heard a screech and then, "Bam."

She immediately called 911 and ran the short distance down the road.

She saw Causby thrown in a field,key rings, his bike crumpled in a tree. Pieces of his shirt were caught in the barbed-wire fence. A month later, the black skid marks still mar the road.

‘SHE SOUNDED TERRIFIED’

Causby said police told him he was going about 75 miles per hour in a 45 mph zone.

He said he bought the bike months ago after he joined the Wings of Eagle Bike Ministry.

Causby remembers being in and out of consciousness, but he recalls very little else of the initial impact.

He does remember a voice yelling at him to lie still.

"I remember seeing her and hearing her," he said. "She sounded terrified."

Eubanks said she kept telling him to sit down and stay still until paramedics arrived.

She said his helmet was torn from his head and blood was trickling from his mouth. He bit through his tongue from the impact.

"I watched as his skin turned from red, dark red and then purple right before my eyes,Charm pendant," Eubanks said.

Causby suffered from severe road rash and three broken ribs.

HAPPY TO HELP

"He kept asking me where he was," Eubanks recalled. "He was in shock and very disoriented. He tried standing up,bangles, but he would wobble and fall down. I told him to stay down."

Eubanks stayed with Causby until rescue workers arrived.

"I just walked back home," she said, mere feet away from where the crash happened. "I knew he was going to be OK. I am just glad I was there to help."

Oyster River had nine shots, three on goal.

"In the first half they absolutely dominated in the air,rings," said Oyster River coach Charlie Crull. "We tried to adjust to what they were doing. We were trying to play the ball in the air too much. They were more physical than us and they were beating us in the air. Once we relaxed a little bit and started to play our game we figured that out a little bit. I thought we really took ownership of the game in the second half."

LOUDON — Josh Sullivan carded a 2-over-par 38, leading St. Thomas to a season-opening Division II victory at Loudon Country Club.

The Saints had 214 points,Atlas charm bracelet, beating Hanover by a stroke. Bishop Brady (223) and Merrimack Valley (236) placed third and fourth, respectively.

Marriotts Ridge’s Jenna Albright is just happy she was around to be a part of it.

Albright tied a career high with 25 points to lead her team to a 60-42 win Thursday at Hobbits Glen over a Centennial team that had won 23 straight regular season matches dating back to when girls golf began in 2008.

"Being a senior, my last year, I knew this was my last chance to beat them and it’s definitely been a goal of mine," said Albright. "They are a great team, so it feels great to finally do it."

Albright got plenty of help, as Rachel Lee fired 21 points, Marissa Davey had 11 and Ariel Biegel chipped in with 3. Alex McShane (17 points), Jessica Mehta (13) and Michelle Kuan (12) accounted for the Eagles’ scoring.

"Our first two are really setting the tone for us,cuff Links, with Jenna serving as a great leader and Rachel playing really well beside her as a freshman," Marriotts Ridge coach Mark Dubbs said. "Really all the girls right now are pushing each other in practices and in matches and it’s showing in our scores."

Albright got things going right away with a birdie on the par 5 first hole and never really slowed down. She finished with three bogies and five pars the rest of the way.

"Of course I was a little nervous at the beginning, being the most important match of the season for us," Albright said. "But I knew after that first hole I was going to be fine. My putting really helped me out … I think I made like four one-putts when I really needed them."

Lee finished her round strong with three pars over her final four holes, which helped extend the Mustangs’ lead. Through the first five holes, Marriotts Ridge only led by three points.

"I will be disappointed if we don't beat them,bracelets,&]]> Rick Roark concedes nothing. Yes, his ninth-ranked DeKalb girls golf team has lost two of three meetings with No. 6 East Noble this season, including a dual meet encounter that snapped the Barons’ 65-meet win streak.

That leads to the ultimate competitive response — payback.

"I will be disappointed if we don’t beat them,bracelets," he said. "Whether it will be in the conference tournament or at the regional or hopefully at state, I think we can beat them at another course."

Competitiveness comes with one concession — Roark and East Noble coach Dick Bentz are friends.

"They have a great coach,bangles," Roark said. "We’ve taken too many titles away from them. If we don’t win it,necklaces, hopefully they do."

Roark referred to the upcoming Northeast Hoosier Conference meet. The Barons have won six straight conference titles. East Noble will threaten that streak. So will Homestead,money clips, which has beaten East Noble and has plenty of firepower to make a long postseason run.

DeKalb has ruled northeast Indiana golf for the last six years. It’s won six straight sectionals, four straight regionals and advanced to state five straight years. Last season the Barons finished eighth at state.

Beyond that it hadn’t lost a match since August 2005. It returned four players in Barbie Snyder,earrings, Allison Curtis, Allison Fox and Kristen Konieczki.

East Noble was poised for a challenge. The Knights returned everybody from a sectional championship team that qualified for state, led by sophomore Katie Sharp. She tied for fifth last year at state after shooting a 12-over 156. She and Roncalli’s Jamie Caylor are the highest returning state finishers. She also qualified for the prestigious Junior PGA Championship earlier this month at Sycamore Hills.

Also back for East Noble is Brittany Wyatt, Conner Handshoe, Anna Pasquali and Sadey Gamble.

DeKalb beat East Noble and Homestead in the Homestead Invitational. However, Sharp didn’t play in that event. With Sharp the Knights edged DeKalb for the Snider Classic title based on the fifth-player score, then won a dual meet 161-169 on their home course at Noble Hawk with Sharp and Pasquali shooting 37s.

That was just a couple of days after Homestead rocked East Noble, 172-177, at Orchard Ridge. The Spartans’ Karley Dobis led with a 39. Brianna Blumenherst had a 41.

Dobis, Blumenherst and Jasmine Jennings are veterans from last year’s sectional championship team that figures to crack the rankings in the next poll.

Another top returning area player is Canterbury’s Sarah Dusman, a sectional runner-up last season.

Having two area teams in the top 10 is quite an accomplishment, Roark said.

"What are the odds of that, especially from the northeast corner? That’s the first time that’s happened in at least six to seven years.

"East Noble is a very good team. They have four seniors, and then with Katie, they’re tough to beat."

Beating the Knights and Homestead in the postseason and qualifying for state for a sixth straight season will take better course management, Roark added.

"If we can get our players playing one to two strokes better by the sectional, we’ll be fine."
