Police crack Melbourne burglary ring

Police believe they have cracked a major organised burglary silver jewelry in Melbourne’s northwest.

Police set up a special operation after it noticed a large increase in burglaries since March in the suburbs of Keilor Downs, Taylors Lakes, Caroline Springs, Hillside, Taylors Hill, Keilor Park and Greenvale.

Operation Fiesta investigated a possible link between the burglaries silver key rings and established a nexus for more than 30 of them in which flat screen televisions, iPods, computer equipment, cars, household electrical and jewellery were stolen, police said.

Five people were arrested on Friday after a large quantity of allegedly stolen property was recovered during police raids in Keilor Downs, Taylors Hill, Hillside and St Albans, police said.

The five, which are now in custody, are assisting silver necklaces police with inquiries with charges expected to be laid later on Saturday.
